It is so easy to feel weak, powerless and lost in today's world. We are surrounded by many instances of hurt, anger, and misfortune daily. Satan is ruling our societies and tormenting God's people constantly with temptations and trials but, as children of God, we have a special power.
The Tyndale Bible Dictionary defines power as the “ability to do things, by virtue of strength, skill, resources, or authorization.” Through the Holy Spirit, we are given the greatest power. In Isaiah 40 we read that He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak, and in Micah 3 "But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might".
God's infinite power is poured out into the lives of all of His people. He blesses them with strength, wisdom and grace day by day. He has given us the gospel, which is His power for salvation. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Romans 1:16). We can be sure of this power as Jesus promised it to His disciples when he ascended to heaven "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me".
Outwardly we may be wasting away, riddled with illnesses and weaknesses that come with age "but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day" (2 Corinthians 4:16).
It is because of this power that we have as Christians that we are able to endure the sufferings of this world and remain strong in the face of persecution. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God" and in our weakness, Christ's power is made perfect "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness".
I hope that you may take these words with you into the new year ahead, and give praise and thanks to God for the mighty power He bestows on those people that pray unto Him.
